Now that we have a bike, we love to go out and explore the surrounding area of Cambridge. It’s great to enjoy the city life, but secretly we can also enjoy the peace and quiet of the beautiful countryside. The environment reminds me a bit of northern France, where my parents have a second house and where I’ve spent a big part of my childhood and years thereafter. Not very surprising that it has so many similarities, since the countries once bordered on each other.

Anyway, as soon as I leave the city behind me and increasingly move into the open fields, I feel calm and free. It’s nice to breathe in the fresh air, feel the wind blowing in your hair and listen to the sound of crickets and bees.

This time we cycled from our house to Shelford, a nearby village less than half an hour from Cambridge and known for a ‘must visit‘: GOG Farm. After we heard many good stories about this foodie place, we got really curious and decided to insert our lunch break at this popular hotspot.

GOG Farm presents itself as a farm shop, where you can go for the tastiest regional products. From a wide selection of cheeses, meat and bread, to vegetables, fruit and pastry. Great to walk around and treat yourself.

In addition to groceries, you can also go for an extensive lunch in the café or outside on the cozy terrace. The kitchen offers a variety of sweet and savoury dishes and in the weekends you can enjoy street food in the shack between 12 and 3pm.

Another option is to fill your ‘picnic basket’ in the farm shop with delicious goods and settle down in the grass near the farm. A quiet place with breathtaking views over the grain fields and super fun for children where they can run around while you can easily keep an eye on them.

GOG Farm is a perfect place to meet up with friends and family. The farm is open all week and organises various events throughout the year, including the Sundowners Sessions until September where you can enjoy music, good food and a beautiful sunset. For up-to-date information about the events it is advised to keep an eye on their social media.

For all other information about the Farm, I would like to refer you to their website.
