In addition to our daily groceries from the supermarket, we love to visit a weekly organic market or farm to buy meat, fish, dairy, vegetables and fruit. Not only tastier, but also better for the planet and we love to support our local producers.

A new favourite is Darwin Nurseries, just a bit outside the centre of Cambridge. A horticultural business and farmer’s shop where adults with a disability are given the opportunity to gain work experience under the supervision of experts.

Not only the shop is a reason to visit the nursery. The site is also beautifully landscaped and great to discover. There are various animals that you can feed at set times. You can walk around in the spacious vegetable garden and plant greenhouse and the nearby picnic area offers space to settle down under the apple trees and the radiant sun.

Besides that the farm has a lot to offer for all ages, it’s also a perfect place to escape the bustle of the city.

After a relaxing afternoon of fun, you can end your visit in the nearby store where you can buy garden tools, plants, flowers and food. For example locally produced meat and bread, honey, pressed juices and fruit and vegetables from own garden.

We always take our time when we do our groceries, I love it when Lara helps me choosing products she likes to eat. – A visit to Darwin Nurseries is not only entertaining but also very educational for children. A nice fact and good reason to come back more often.
