For many people who know us, it’s no surprise that we love good food and also like to prepare diners for ourselves, friends and family. When we cook, we prefer to use fresh, natural and honest products. It’s something we always did in the Netherlands and now we live in London, we will definitely continue this tradition. In Rotterdam we were often loyal to our favorite places where we did our groceries. Now that we live in London, we had to rediscover this again.
One of our favorite food spots to visit for groceries in the Netherlands during the weekend was a visit to the Rotterdamse Oogst Markt. A local food market where various producers present and sell their food products. From Dutch cheeses, Moroccan spreads and Hungarian wines to Zeeland mussels, Rotterdam beers and French sausages. The market is not only suitable for shopping, it is also a perfect place to meet up with friends, enjoy a delicious lunch and watch live performances.

Now that we live in Chiswick, we’ve noted our favorite spots and are lucky that we even have a local food market in our neighborhood. The type: Local harvest Market vs the French Market as I know them near the French summerhouse of my parents. Low-threshold, biological and straight from the producer.

The Food Market Chiswick takes place during the year every Sunday from 10am to 14pm and is held at the farmyard of the Grove Park Farm House located in the Dukes Meadows Park. The market is a social enterprise and revenues from running the market are used to improve and maintain the park.

This Sunday food event is a popular destination for residents in Chiswick to do their groceries. Rain or sunshine, every week there are about twenty-five top producers from all over the country ready to sell their products. The Food Market Chiswick aims to increase the income of farmers and to deliver high-quality local / seasonal foods to urban communities. The market encourages Londoners to show more interest in food production and their sustainable methods.

What we think is nice about visiting a farmers market is that you can speak directly with the producer and get to know a lot about the products. We like to talk about production methods, ingredients, methods of preparation and love to get inspired. Something you miss in a supermarket.

This food market in Chiswick is not a big one, but you will find everything you need for a good base: meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, bread, cheese, you name it. After we finish our groceries we conclude to end up with a delicious lunch. We love variety and likes to try something different every time we visit the market. This time we chose for the Spanish kitchen – to become already in the mood for our upcoming summer holiday.

The Chiswick Food Market is an ideal opportunity to spend your Sunday afternoon. There is a relaxed atmosphere and you can easily get in touch with the locals.

The location of the market, adjacent to the park is ideal. During spring and summertime it will be the perfect place to relax with a picnic basket full products of the market while the children are having fun at the Duke Meadows play area.

For more information about the market, the producers, accessibility and Dukes Meadows, I would like to refer you to the websites of The Food Market Chiswick.
