Our visit at 20 Fenchurch Street, ended at Fenchurch Rooftop Restaurant on the top floor of the building. This restaurant is one of the five dining options at Sky Garden, which is located on the top three floors of the 160-meter-high building. After hearing many positive messages about this place, we entered the restaurant with high expectations.
Upon entry you enter the hall which gives a view of the large wine collection of the restaurant. As soon as you walk to the restaurant you are kindly welcomed by the hostesses. The reservation is confirmed, the coats are accepted and we followed the hostess who designates our table in the back of the room.
The interior is trendy/modern decorated with a color palette of grey, off-white, beige, ocher yellow and black. The black floor works very well in this space where there is so much light from the outside. The ocher yellow, off-white and beige tones, gives the space color and warmth.
The restaurant is L-shaped and offers views through the many windows across the West of London. A small part of the space is closed by a glass wall. This can be eclipsed as desired so that you can dine privately. This room can be reserved for up to sixteen people.
Our hostess, a charming Frenchman, proposed himself and offered us the menu and the wine list. At Fenchurch Restaurant you can order à la carte or you can choose the five-course menu including a wine-arrangement. We chose for the last one.
But first it was time for an aperitif, I choose for the cocktail called Hampstead Heath. Delicious fresh and very well combined flavours of sweet, sour and bitter. Gin, St. Germain elderflower liqueur, bergamot and pineapple juice, finished with citrus and aromatic fog.
The amuse we got from the house: Mackerel Crouton in a sauce of green peas.
Time for the first course: Salad of bull’s heart tomatoes, Nocellara del belice olives and burrata. Wine: Eroica Riesling, Château Ste. Michelle, Washington State, USA 2014.
Second course: Ceviche of Dorset char, avocado, black radish, yuzu and basil dressing.
Wine: Beurrot Pinot Gris, Kooyong, Vicotoria, Australië 2016.
Third course: Roast Fillet of cod, coco beans, girolles and cuttlefish.
Wine: Movia Rebula, Primorska, Slovenia, 2014 (biodynamic).
Fourth course: Goodwood Estate Lamb, rosemary smoked aubergine, potato and ricotta.
Wine: Cartagho Mandrarossa, Sicily, Italy, 2014 (served from Magnum).
Fifth course: Tulameen raspberries, milk chocolate, oat biscuit and goat’s milk ice cream.
Wine: Muscat de Beaumes de Venise, Domaine de Fenouillet, Rhône, France 2013.
We have eaten deliciously and enjoyed the matching wines. Five courses seems a lot, but the courses are arranged to be enough. The food was very sophisticated, with a great taste sensation and was beautifully presented on the plate. The view over London made this wonderful
We finished with coffee and received a treat from the house. A Madeleine cake on a bed of ground coffee beans. The personal message made it down. Thank you Fenchurch Restaurant. We had a wonderful afternoon and will definitely be back another time.
Also enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner at beautiful hight? Please note that you have to reserve on time (sometimes months) because this restaurant is most of the time fully booked. We were lucky, because someone denied it.
