In recent years you see it more often: empty buildings transformed into covered markets where you can have food from all over the world. While we love to hang out on open air food truck festivals during Summer time, we can visit the so-called food halls in the wet cold Winter months. Earlier I wrote about the Fenix Loodsen in Rotterdam, an empty shed on Katendrecht that temporarily offers space to various entrepreneurs. Meanwhile, a popular destination among the locals, but tourists also find their way more and more towards this Rotterdam hotspot. As real foodies we’ve always been a big fan of these kind of places, and especially with children it’s a perfect place to meet with friends.
Recently we visited another so called place: MingleMush in The Hague, at the back of the Central Station. This Hague food walhalla of no less than 1600m2 opened its doors last year and has since been a popular hotspot for all ages.
MingleMush has a lot to offer. The open space with glass on both sides and a view of the Anna van Buerenplein is divided into smaller clusters, with little squares, streets and cozy seating areas. In cooperation with the Koninklijke Bibliotheek you’ll find a large seat corner with surrounded cupboards full of books. On the other side of the hall there is a podium for live bands, DJs, lectures and singer-songwriters. The vide provides a game hall with various arcade games. For the little ones there is a safety play area, where you can have a good view from your table.
When you walk along the stands, you experience a street food tour dedicated to all different continents. From Oriental stews, Polish specialties to Mexican street food. But also Asian fusion dishes, Italian delicacies and classic burgers. Between the food stands you’ll find three drink bars, each with its own specialty: one bar for specialty beers, one for coffees and one for cocktails & gin tonics.
If you have plans to visit The Hague and are in the area of Central Station, be sure to pay a visit at MingleMush. A top-hang-out with a diverse program for everyone. For more information about the food stands and events, please have a look at their website.
