Meanwhile, it has been one month ago since we moved to Chiswick. After four weeks in our serviced accommodation in South Kensington, it was finally enough to pull in our new home.
A home where we are going to build our new life in the UK.
When we were offered our current house during our home search, we were surprised at first, but once we saw the property we knew, “This will be our house.” What a beautiful object in the middle of Chiswick. A typical English cottage from 1600, as you know them only from the movies and books. That image of such a country house with a front yard, a big tree in the middle and a path that leads you to the front door. An image which the house fully complies with.
Let me tell you something about this beautiful cottage. To find our home you first have to cross the front yard with a magnificent Magnolia in the middle. This beautiful tree covers the entire front yard with its long branches full of leaves. Every day, when I wake up and open the curtain, I look at this fairy-tale tree that fits so perfect in this place.
When you are in the house it feels immediately warm and cozy. Low ceilings, round bows, small doors, a wood stove, wooden frames and sliding windows. This house lives and has a lot of character. Although the house is in good condition and well-finished with modern elements, such as a clean wooden floor, tiles, central heating and a new bathroom.
On the ground floor there is a spacious living and dining room, enough space for everyone to retreat. The kitchen adjoins the house with views and access to the backyard.
On the first floor you enter the sleeping area with two bedrooms, one for us and one for Lara. On the corridor you have access to the recently renovated bathroom, with a big shower cabin and a nice bath with view over the backyard.
On the second floor you find another bedroom, which we made to a nice guest room.
Fortunately most of our furniture and art collection fits well in this house. Some things like the dining table with the chairs will be replaced for another set. Because we think these are to modern and big for this house. But no hurries. The decoration process must grow by the time. That’s a lot more fun than when everything is done in one day. That’s what I think at least.
