Getting a breath of fresh air at the West Wittering Beach

When we lived in the Netherlands, we regularly went to the beach. Weather or no weather, it’s always nice to have a good walk along the water. England has many popular seaside resorts such as Sand Bay Beach and Cornwall, but given the driving distance from London it’s maybe better to book a weekend getaway for these places. – It’s still on our list – Luckily there are also beaches a bit closer from London, such as West Wittering, which you can plan easily for a day out.

This coastal town offers a beautiful natural pristine beach in West Sussex and is very popular for water sports. During this season we didn’t expect top crowds on the beach, but we did expect a lot of surfers in the water. Once we arrived at the parking lot near the beach, the vans with signs on the roof confirmed this immediately. If you want to join them but you don’t have the right gear, you can rent a board and a wetsuit at 2XS near the beach.

We skipped the dive and went for a lovely walk over the beach and the dunes. Lara had taken her handbag to collect beautiful shells and stones in it, something she always likes to do when we visit the beach.

From West Wittering Beach you can easily walk to East Wittering, where you can find several beach bars and surf shops. Given the predicted rain later that afternoon, we chose to return halfway the route to pick up the car and drive towards it.

East Wittering is not very spectacular, but I can imagine that the atmosphere in the summer months is more lively. – After we treated ourselves to a portion of fish and chips we decided to do some groceries for the evening. The evening fell, time to return home, on the menu: lobster, fresh from the sea.

If you live in London and you want a day out at the beach, then West Wittering Beach is great to visit for a good walk or some water sports all year round. For more information about this English coast, see information below.
